Happy Birth Day Josie!

Jocelyn Marie was born August 10th at 5:35pm (on her due date!)

highlights of the birth story…

I woke up around 5am with some bloody show and a little crampy, but not really convinced that this was it. Went back to bed until 7 or so, and got up to consult with dh to see if he should go into work or not. We’d no sooner decided that he should go ahead and go, when I stood up and my water broke. Oops, guess he should stay.

Contractions started picking up and eventually seemed to settle into a pattern. I kept leaking fluid all throughout the morning. Around 10:30am we talked to the midwife and decided to go in to the birth center and get checked. I was getting frustrated because the only position that was semi comfortable was walking… and I was getting pretty tired of constantly standing up.

At the same time, I thought we were probably going too soon. But I was a stretchy 4cm and already well thinned out, so we decided to stay put. Our lovely midwife got me settled on a birth ball with dh supporting me from a rocking chair seated behind me. I hung out there until 2:30pm or so and then headed for the tub.

Oh my. The tub was such a wonderful relief. Contractions were pretty much on top of each other and I’d been throwing up off and on all day, so I wasn’t feeling good… but the tub definitely made things better. I started pushing around 4:30 and by 5:35 she was here!

The whole experience was more intense and surreal that I ever imagined — and more wonderful, too. We couldn’t be happier. Jocelyn weighed 9lbs. 2.8oz. and 21 in. long. She’s so beautiful! I had a small tear and ended up with a few stitches, but I feel really great so far. We were all home safe and sound by 11pm.

Congrats on your new arrival. Sounds like a relatively “easy” labor and delivery. ( Coming from a former labor and delivery RN). Take care.

Oh my! Maeve and I have been waiting for this news. I’m so glad to hear it went well, and she’s adorable!

I never used to quite get when people said to enjoy this time, but really, when she’s super small and can fall asleep anywhere, anytime, that is the greatest thing. Aw, you should just enjoy all of it because every day is special.

    Congratulations!!
