Spiffing Up the House
It always feels good to complete a project that’s been on the back burner for ages. Over the long weekend, I finally covered a piece of foam to make a decent cushion for a cute garage sale chair that we found — gosh — could it be two years ago already? I went out and got the foam and fabric right away, but those two didn’t come together until just this week. Whew!
The structure of the chair itself could use some reinforcement, but I won’t even kid myself into thinking that I’m going to tackle that anytime soon!
I also sewed up some simple cafe curtains for the kitchen. Not only do they look cute, but it’ll be nice not to feel like our neighbors are peering in at us in the evenings anymore. (Not that they ever were, but it’s cosier now.)
I’d gotten the cute vintage fruit-print fabric some time ago from eBay, so the valances have been up for a few months. But, there wasn’t enough for the rest of the curtains, and it’s taken a while to find something that I thought would be complimentary. I think this works. In case it’s hard to tell, the lower fabric is blue and yellow checks on a white background with strips of red bias tape for ties.

Cute curtains! But even more cute–the red cabinets! Did you do that yourself?

Yep, the cabinets used to be a dark, drab brown. Getting those painted and installing new handles was one of our very first house projects!
