Signs of Spring

The weather outside may not be very springy, but at least there are butterflies on my new dishcloth! :)

Other than this little diversion, I’ve mostly been knitting furiously away on the first blush sweater for my knitting class. I’m getting kind of sick of it, so I’m ready to hurry up and move on to the sleeves. I started to feel more enthusiastic about it when the idea occurred to me to put a couple of fat stripes on the sleeves (in white? or denim blue?), just for fun. Kind of for that rugby effect. It’s just such a boxy, plain design that I think this might give it a tad more pep.

Well, I mentioned my brainstorm to my knitting teacher last night, and she was less than enthused. “Well, I guess you could do that… if you wanted..” was all she said (with the obvious implied ending to that sentence being “…but I don’t think it would look good, and I don’t think you should be messing around with the pattern like that, especially since you’re a beginner.”) Well, fooey, I say! That just makes me more determined to try it. I mean, I can just rip it out if I don’t like how it’s going. What’s the big deal? Anyway, the teacher is pretty much like that with everyone. Luckily, the shop owner is every bit as enthusiastic and encouraging as this teacher is a wet blanket.

All in all, I had a fun time at class, though. Always fun to see everyone else’s progress and to chit chat. Best of all, I found out that the shop is having a big sale this weekend — 30% off all wool! And just in time for my birthday!

Here’s a bonus picture of my nephew wearing the little fleece jacket I made for him at Christmas!

Ouch, sounds like you have a unimaginative knitter for a teacher. Don’t let her wet blanket smother your fresh ideas! The fleece hoodie is awfully cute, I wish I could sew so well!

Yeah, it’s your sweater, you have to wear it, so you might as well make it how you want! Everybody has different style ideas. It’s kind of lame how thinly she tried to veil hers…

    Good luck with the sleeves!

    And the butterflies are nice.
