Afghan Squares to Go

Miracle of miracles, you see before you two 8-inch squares in left-over Cascade 220 for Ann & Kay’s Aghanalong. I’m so relieved to have a more respectable pair of squares to contribute this time!

Plus, it was fun to try out a couple of stitch patterns from the 365 Stitches a Year Calendar. In the beige we have garter stitch steps, and in the blue it’s fleck stitch.

In other knitting, I’m still working away at the front of the Emerald City Tank… I’m considering experimenting with some short-row shaping for the boobular area (a la Bonne Marie’s helpful article in Knitty).

Supposedly, I was going to next begin working on the Ribbon Tank pattern from Hip To Knit using that cany apple red Deco Ribbon yarn that I worked so hard to fine. But instead (or simultaneously?), I’m going to give another ribbed tank pattern a try using Schoeller Stahl Cecil — a bulky cotton/acrylic yarn from Elann.com. I chose a grapey purple color (I think perhaps Mariko is using this same yarn for one of her current projects, too??) A few of the gals in my office knitting group are working on this pattern together, so I couldn’t resist joining in. (Can’t recall the name of the book off the top of my head… I’ll give more details later.)

So, here I am in the midst of my own unintentional three-tank challenge. (Maybe I’m subsciously just trying to be more like Carolyn!) And to make it even more out of control, I suppose I should admit to having yarn that’s intended for a Chickami and Eyelet Cardi from ChicKnits.com. However, I think I’ll keep that one one hold for the time being since something tells me I’m going to get burned out on tank tops pretty soon!

I have only a sleeve and side seam (okay, and buttons) to finish on a summery cardigan that I knit with the Schoeller Stahl Cecil. The yarn doesn’t have a tight twist, so is a little bit splitty, but I liked working with it (I’m a weirdo who LIKES knitting with cotton). I haven’t figured out whether I have enough for a tank with the leftovers! Nice afghan squares — it’s fun to be able to experiment in a small way with new stitch patterns.
